Save Energy While on Vacation

When planning your vacation, you can also plan  how to conserve energy when away from home for short periods of time. Jackson EMC recommends several ways to save energy while away.

  • Unplug major appliances. Many appliances continue to draw power even if they are not turned on.
  • Turn off the electric water heater or turn the gas water heater to pilot.
  • Turn off swimming pool and spa heaters.
  • Set the thermostat to 85 degrees. If the climate is moderate, turn off the cooling system completely.

Jackson EMC is a consumer-owned cooperative providing electricity and related services to 194,000 customers in metro Atlanta and northeast Georgia.

Collectively, Georgia’s 42 customer-owned EMCs provide electricity and related services to 3.7 million people, nearly half of Georgia’s population, across 73% of the state’s land area.  Georgia’s 42 electric membership cooperatives now serve more customers than any other state network of EMCs in the nation.
