The EMC Security monitoring center received a medical alarm from a customer residing in Commerce, Georgia on 10/7/2013 at 11:03 am. The customer caught her finger into the zipper of a piece of clothing as she was closing the zipper. The hook and zipper had caught 1/4 of the customers finger. In pain and bleeding, the customer quickly pressed the button on the EMC Medical Alert two-way voice pendant she wears around her neck. She was able to speak directly with an EMC Medical Alert monitoring center operator and explain her medical emergency.
The customer asked the operator to call her neighbor who arrived and advised that too much of her finger was stuck in the zipper and that her finger was quickly swelling. The said she was worried that she may lose her finger. The operator dispatched EMTs who arrived in minutes and were able to get the hook of the zipper out of her finger, stabilize the swelling and stop the bleeding. The customer refused to be transported to a hospital, but was adamant that getting the EMC Medical Alert system was the smartest decision she has ever made.
