The EMC Security local monitoring station received an alarm from the home security system of a customer in Dacula, Georgia. The alarm came from the back door sensor at 11:28am. The police were immediately dispatched. The customer’s neighbor responded as well. When the neighbor arrived at the home, the police had already cleared and left the home. EMC Security called the police department back at 12:14pm to check on the status of the home. The police stated they had cleared the call as a false alarm. The customer’s neighbor said that it looked as though the back screen had been pulled out, then replaced. It appears that the burglar then entered through the back door, went upstairs, took a jar full of coins. The customer is going to contact the police about why they cleared as a false alarm.
Fortunately, the customer did not suffer substantial losses. EMC Security stresses importance of designing a home security system with multiple trip points, including perimeter devices, window contacts, and interior motion detectors. Whenever possible, one should also lock away valuables such as cash in order to keep “snatch and grab” thieves at bay. A well designed home security system can make all the difference between no losses and substantial losses.
