Recently, several EMC Security customers have had an unsolicited knock on their door from security scammers. These individuals are usually well dressed and explain that the security system in the home will not work in July and must be replaced before then to insure the home is protected. They then offer a replacement security system for free if they are allowed to place a yard sign in the yard. They will ask the homeowner to sign an authorization to complete the installation, but what the homeowner is actually signing is a 60 month (5 year) non-cancellable contract for monitoring at $45 or more per month.
